Choosing a plumber

You need to know you can trust your plumber to carry out the work, regardless of whether it is a tap that is leaking or a new central heating system that needs to be installed.  If you have time, then undertake a little research first before you choose a plumber.

  • Ask friends or family if they use a reliable plumber
  • Make sure you obtain a minimum of three quotes before choosing a plumber
  • Always ask for a written quotation, the final bill should not deviate too far from the initial quote.
  • After the job is complete request a full breakdown of the bill.

If you don’t have time and it is an emergency look for a plumber who is registered with one of the plumbing associations.

How to avoid a cowboy when it comes to gas
When it comes to gas it is illegal for some to do work for pay if they are not CORGI registered.  If the work is carried out by someone who is not CORGI registered, there are more chances that the work is unsafe and you unlikely to get support in case an incident occurs.

Research carried out by CORGI demonstrates that illegal gas workers can be classified into 3 groups.  These groups are Full, lapsed and part time illegal workers.  Full illegal workers undertake work without having taken formal training, lapsed workers have been before but are no longer Corgi registered and part time gas workers work for a company that is Corgi registered but doing the work on the side.
